When Footballers Pray

By Dr Kunle Adekola

Pray for MuambaI have observed over the last few days the tenacity by which we have been calling for prayers across the nations of the world. I have also seen on the television, newspapers and online, pictures of footballers praying on the field of play and their calls for prayers. Also open display of support of prayers from footballers. Until now, I have always believed that these famous footballers will know nothing called prayer.

But I was totally wrong! I am really sorry for my ignorance! Oh, I salute the prompt call for prayer by the Bolton Manager Owen Coyle. In fact, he made the world knew that God was seriously needed in the situation. He later said that "The message is the goodwill, the prayers from everybody, they are so thankful and they want to put that on record - to say 'keep up the prayers, thanks for all the support,'" He also said among many other statements: "Everybody is praying for Fabrice, which is very important and that has been a real source of strength to the family."  I want to conclude that only a man that believe in prayer can call for prayers......... Prayer is really very important to our daily life.

MASK. The Church, rules, my struggles, disobedience and em... God.

By Oyin Oladipo

A lady wearing a maskIt’s easy to put on a mask. At times it is the only reasonable thing to do in a society that says conform or be ostracised. Many people hurt but are afraid to give voice to their pain or seek for help- if there is any. The result of silenced hurt stares us in the face every day in: wrong decisions, a lack of direction and as we have been seeing in England in the last few months, suicides.

Religion taken at its face value preaches peace, love and acceptance. Even Satanists claim to want the betterment of the total man. But the reality of what we see is that religion has mostly succeeded in doing the opposite of what it claims its mission is. Many lives have been lost; people whose orientation of behaviour is considered odd have been labelled evil and condemned to an eternity in hell whilst still alive. The many evils of organised religion has left a wound in the mind of many, mine included.

Countless times those of us who are branded different have been forced in our quiet times to ask the question ‘God, what is wrong with me?’.  Often we have cried out to be heard, to be understood to be accepted, If not accepted, at least to be understood. Daily I come across Church-going people who though they love and respect God still find themselves leading lives that are at odds with what the establishment teaches is against God’s will.

HEALTH

Depression... the way out of it

Fearful ManAt some time or other in our lives, everyone will feel fed up, brassed off or down in the dumps with mild
feelings of anxiety or depression. It is a normal part of everyday existence. If it interferes with normal day
to day life, it then becomes an illness (also known as depressive illness or depression, clinical depression,
major depression).

Reactive or mild depression is an excessive reaction to an unpleasant experience. The person is tired and
tearful, lacks concentration and drive, and has reduced ability to cope and experience pleasure. Physical
symptoms include headache and bowel symptoms. The outcome depends on the person's personality and the persistence of the precipitating factors.¹

Each year 40% of us have quite severe feelings of depression, unhappiness and disappointment.² Some will go on to experience a clinical depression. Depressive disorder, clinical or major depression is usually associated with disturbances of mood (depressed, miserable or irritable), speech (slow and monotonous), energy (reduced and slow) and ideas (feelings of guilt, futility, guilt, self reproach, unworthiness, worrying, and suicidal thoughts). People often describe their symptoms in physical terms (early morning waking, poor appetite, weight loss, constipation, loss of libido, impotence, fatigue, bodily aches and pains.³.... Read on

FAITH

The Fullness of Joy

Smiling LadyDid you know that your testimony is your treasure of faith? When we first give our life to Christ we get that excitement and thrill to tell the whole world about how our lives has been transformed and that we are a new creation in Christ. But our testimony should not just stop there.

Our Testimonies should always be shared with others about the way that God is and has been moving in our lives. It takes faith to share your testimony and it takes grace for people to be a witness of your testimony and believe the goodness of the Lord. John 3:33 says that ‘he that hath received his testimony have set to his seal that God is true’. Not everyone will receive your testimony. Some will be angry; some will be frustrated and question God as to when it will be their turn to testify. Some will even be jealous. But the truth of the matter is that whoever receives another person’s testimony in their heart they have declared that God is the true miracle working God.

The things that are freely given to us

He that spareth not his own son but delivereth him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?
Romans 8:32.

The things that are freely given to us are our inheritance as Children of the Most High God.

Isaiah 55:1-2 says ‘Everyone who thirsts, come to the waters. And you who have no money, come buy and eat, yes come buy and eat without money and without price... ’

To inherit means to  receive a property or title as an heir, and Romans 8:17 says we are heirs of God and joint-heirs with Christ. What does it mean to be an heir of God and joint-heir with Christ? More
